But since it became a requirement to have papers and documentation, in the past twenty years, the census of immigrants has almost tripled—going from 200,000 to a shocking 600,000. Not all immigrants know to/how to fill a census, or do not want to so the number is likely to be way more. Many people come through El Paso, Texas, making it the Ellis Island of Mexico and South America’s immigrants.
Coming to America gives them chances that they never had, they can build good lives for them and the many generations to come after them. And if they are to stay close to the boarders in the California and Texas area it is easier to visit their loved ones back in Mexico or even move back home once they’ve made enough money to help them live comfortably. We can only guess that around a million of the Mexicans that have come here to work, went back home to live.
At the end of it all, we will never know for sure how many people have come over here. Due to the large amount of land that the boarder covers, there is been tons of illegal immigration that never gets documented, and this surge of people is never going to end. Here in America, we’ve got such a stable government that it only makes sense that everyone wants to join!
